Hometown helps you get paid to care for your loved ones

For years, Texas Medicaid has helped people get paid to care for their loved ones. Here's how it works.

The CDS program

Texas Medicaid's Consumer Directed Services (CDS) option lets a person who receives attendant services choose who provides them, often a relative, friend or neighbor, and employ that person directly, so the care you already give becomes a paid job.

Being an employer comes with payroll, tax filings, a budget, timesheets and state paperwork, so Texas requires every CDS employer to work with a Financial Management Services Agency (FMSA) that handles that side on their behalf, and that is the job Hometown does. It costs your family nothing, because Texas Medicaid pays the FMSA directly, and your family stays in charge of the care.

Step by step

  1. Your loved one has (or gets) Medicaid services

  2. They tell their case manager: “we want CDS”

    That moves the hours from an agency's control to the family's.That moves those hours from an agency's control to the family's. Every case manager has to explain CDS, so asking for it is routine.

  3. They pick Hometown as their FMSA

    We walk through the enrollment packet together, in English or Spanish.

  4. They hire you (or whoever they trust)

    You fill out the hiring paperwork once. Most relatives can be paid attendants.

  5. You log hours, we get you paid

    Paid every period, taxes withheld, W-2 at year end.Hometown pays you every period, withholds taxes, and sends a W-2 at year end.
